Rishikesh is a popular town situated in the Uttarakhand district of northern India. The town is perched at an altitude of 352 m above sea level. The town has gained the reputation of a holy town around the world. You will find a religious spot in every corner of this town. Rishikesh is blessed with the holy waters of River Ganga. The three regions that comprise Rishikesh are- Rishikesh, Shwargashram and Mun-Ki-Rethi. There are a number of yoga and meditation ashrams in Rishikesh. Rishikesh has a great mythological history. The name of Rishikesh was mentioned in holy books like “Mahabharata” and “Ramayana’. Long time ago a sage name Raibhya Rishi went into a deep penance here on the bank of River Ganga. Truly impressed by his penance Lord Vishnu made an appearance in front of him in the form “Hrishikesh”. The place inherited its name from this ancient incident. There is a also popular legend that Bharat, brother of Lord Rama also performed his penance in this place. There is a temple named Bharat temple which signifies the sanctity of the legend. But the place gained much exposure after the visit of Adi Shankaracharya in the period of 9th century. Rishikesh was always resting place for saints and sages from long ago.
The best time to visit the Valley of Flowers is during the months of July, August and September. The ‘Devotedly with a pure heart, whosoever comes to Rishikesh, the Brahmateertha, and stays there one night, becomes Godly!’

By Road: Rishikesh has good connectivity by well-maintained roads from other nearby cities. There are regular government bus services to Delhi, Chandigarhand Shimla etc.
